Russian troops have noticeably intensified their actions in the Ugledar area, seeking to increase pressure on Ukrainian forces and consolidate their positions in the Pokrovskyi direction. According to analysts, this strategy is aimed at encircling and weakening Ukraine’s defenses, which would give Russia the opportunity to advance to strategically important sections of the N-15 road linking Donetsk to Zaporizhzhya.
The attacks from the southern flank of the Pokrovskyi direction, according to experts, imply the expansion of offensive operations, which may make it difficult for Ukrainian forces to hold their positions in the western part of Donetsk Region. At the same time, Ukrainian airborne brigades continue to successfully repel Russian mechanized attacks, as demonstrated near Kostyantynivka on September 4.
Despite the intensification, experts do not expect a significant weakening of the Russian offensive in the near term. However, it remains possible that Russian forces may find it difficult to hold the initiative in the long term, especially against the backdrop of Ukrainian counterattacks on other parts of the front.
The Ugledar offensive thus becomes part of a broader strategy aimed at destroying Ukrainian defenses in the Donetsk region. However, the Russian command risks resource depletion and a premature culmination of the operation if the current pace is not sustained.
